ABLETT, Marilyn   
Passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Saturday August 11, 2007, in her 76th year. Beloved wife of Richard. Cherished mother of Heather and Duncan Croft, Peter and Nannette Lomas, Murray Lomas, Gary and Jane Ablett, Stephen and Jackie Ablett. Loving grandmother of Scott, Brian, David, Michael, Daniel, Brody, Jaime, Jeff, Greg, Elise and Taylor. Marilyn will be missed by (Doc). At home, Friday, August 24, 2007, in his 89th year. Much beloved husband of Koto for 62 years. Dearly loved father of Kathi and her partner Doug LeClerc. Brother of Dick (Nanaimo) and his late siblings Ken and Toshiko; step-son of Midori (Nanaimo). Brother-in-law of Masao and Amy Yatabe, Kazuko Yatabe, Minoru and Lydia Yatabe, Joanne Kiyonaga, Marnie Hirano and Roe Yatabe (Atlanta). Fond uncle and great-uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Terry was a highly talented sumi-e artist and commercial artist; a volunteer at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre; a bowler, golfer and sports lover. ADAMS, Nina Anna (nee Barone) 
Born in Toronto, Ontario on April 26th, 1921 to her dear late parents Giuseppe and Anna (Byerlocco) Barone. Entered into rest in the loving care of her family at her home on Tuesday, September 25th, 2007. Nina Anna, dearly loved wife of the late Saul West Adams. Dear mother of Ronald (Barbara), Robert (Jessica), Stephen (Elizabeth) and the late Marilyn Gianonne. Cherished Nanny and Great-Nanny. Godmother of Barbara Libon. Sadly missed by her many other family members, friends and neighbours. Taken suddenly, on September 14, 2007 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in his 69th year. Hope  'Hag'' slipped away on her last journey in August 2007. Widow of Dr. Jake Beverstein, she had just passed her 93rd birthday. (WW II Vet)

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Ray in his 82nd year on November 20, 2007.  Devoted husband and friend of Audrey since June 1, 1951.  Cherished father of Steve (Lori) & Sandy (Al Arbour).  Beloved grandfather of Carly Crites and Kyle & Lauren VanQuickenborne.  Dear brother to Tom (Doris).

Peacefully at Scarborough Grace Hospital on Sunday, December 30th, 2007 at the age of 89. Thomas beloved husband of the late Helen. Loving father of Demetry, Nick, Kosta, Popy, Theano, Avdokeia, Afrodite and Rita. Resting at the PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. (between Warden and Pharmacy) from 4-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Service on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Interment in Pine Hills Cemetery.


HALL, Oswald   
Oswald Hall, PhD, LLD, FRSC   (18 January 1908 - 31 August 2007) Born in Lily Plains, northern rural Saskatchewan, and one of nine children, Oswald came to be one of the early members of the sociological profession in Canada. He studied at Queen's, McGill and Chicago, and taught at Brown and McGill where he served 16 years, many as chairman. Following a visiting professorship at Tulane University he joined the faculty at the University of Toronto in 1956. His primary practical research interests centred on the sociology of work and the professions, especially medicine, focusing on doctors, chiropractors and paramedical specialties. His career found him moving between the worlds of academe and government policy, and he served on both the Royal Commission on Health Services and the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism. After retiring from the University of Toronto, he held sessional appointments with the University of British Columbia, the University of Calgary, the University of Waterloo, the University of Guelph, Trent University and Memorial University. He enjoyed a rich and rewarding career of teaching and research in the early years of what was then an exciting and new area of academic endeavour. His colleagues and students throughout Canada honoured him with a series of published papers. His contribution to the development of sociology and Canada were also recognized through the awarding of an honorary doctorate by the University of Carleton, and membership in the Royal Society of Canada. Predeceased by his wife Florence Hall (nee Tanner). He is survived by his sister Kathleen Hamilton, his son Frank, daughter Mona (Browne), granddaughter Christina Hall, and many nephews and nieces and their children. His intellect, presence and humour are now gone, and it has created a void.


JANS, Josef
Born Josef Janzekovitsch on March 8, 1913 in Turskivrh, in the Province of Slovania in the former Yugoslavia. Josef passed away on the 5th day of September, 2007. Josef came to Toronto, Canada after the war in 1949 where he met and married Katherina Gauder in April 1950. They lived in Toronto and eventually moved to the then Township of Innisfil, just south of Barrie, Ontario, where Kathe Jans became involved in politics and Josef became her  chauffeur.  Kathe and Joe were married for 45 years when Kathe passed away. Josef is survived by their only child, a daughter, Ilona, her husband James Rogers of Toronto, and his two grandchildren, Kathe Rogers of Toronto, and James Josef Rogers of Montreal. Josef was a pilot for the Yugoslavian Air Force during World War II and for a short time was a member of the Army, Navy Air Force, Unit 365, Barrie. Josef's final years were spent at St. Joseph's Hospital and Home which, when torn down, became the new St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario. The family wishes to express their appreciation to each and every person who touched Josef's life during his years at St. Joe's, be you doctor, nurse, cook, cleaner, volunteer, staff, etc., as each and every one of you added years to Josef's life and made his last days on earth enjoyable. To the manager, Fitwi, and former and present staff of Swiss Chalet, Woodlawn Road, Guelph, as well as Campbell and Mary Round, thank you for 15 years of Sunday lunches that each of you made so enjoyable for all of us. To everyone else who knew and loved Josef, thank you for being part of his life's history. Josef was cremated and joins Kathe in their niche wall at the Innisvale Cemetery and Crematorium (Innisfil Beach Road and the 400 Highway). A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Joseph's Health Centre, 100 Westmount Road, Guelph, Ontario, on the 24th day of October, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Josef's memory may be made to the St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation as a living legacy and may be made through STECKLEY-GOODERHAM Funeral Home (Clapperton and Worsley Streets), Barrie. McKENZIE, Robert Blakely    
ROBERT BLAKELY McKENZIE, M.D. Born 16 May 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland. Died 16 September 2007 in Toronto. Graduated in Medicine from Glasgow University. Served in RAF as a Medical Officer in Rheindahlen, West Germany. Immigrated to Canada in 1968 and worked in family medicine in Toronto. Also served as Medical Officer with the Toronto Scottish Regiment; and as Commanding Officer of 25 Medical (Toronto) Company. A volunteer with several charities especially Out of the Cold and Raise the Roof. A man of wisdom with many talents and a zeal for life, he played many different roles: poet, singer, actor, soldier, physician and gardener but above all a husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all those who had the good fortune to know him. Darling husband of Rita McKenzie (nee Burgoyne), beloved father and father-in-law of Donald, Janice, Diane, Sandy and Deborah, and proud grandfather of Malcolm, Simon and Gillian. Kind and loving, gentle and generous, a giant in all our hearts. Funeral service will be held at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre (275 Lesmill Road, south of 401, east off Leslie) North York, on Thursday, 20 September 2007 at 11:00 a.m. There is a link death cannot sever; Love and remembrance last forever.


NIXON
Sandra Eloise Nixon passed away peacefully in her sleep, in her home, on Sunday, September 30, 2007 surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband John, her son Derek Nixon, her daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Gary Plaine, grandchildren; Steven, and Kristen Plaine and Brittany Davie. Also survived by her nieces and nephews in Ontario and U.S. Visitation was held at DENNING BROS. FUNERAL HOME Strathroy on Tuesday, October 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 3rd at 11 am with Rev. Charles Seed officiating. Interment in Strathroy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Eyes Right would be appreciated. ***A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Sandra.



PAKKALA, Valerie Margaret (nee Dopson)
Passed away suddenly at home on her own terms, Friday, August 24th, 2007, at age 52 after a courageous 4 year struggle with cancer. Val was the beloved wife of Wayne, loving mother of Luke and Mark all of Georgetown. Daughter of Dorothy and Richard (deceased) Dopson, daughter-in-law of Gloria and Andy (deceased) Pakkala all of Sudbury. Val will be greatly missed by her many sisters, brothers, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews as well as her and Wayne's many friends and associates. A webmaster and graphics designer at Yamaha Motors Canada, Val was also extensively involved in many business and volunteer organizations in Georgetown throughout her life including the Chamber of Commerce and the local baseball scene. She founded the Halton Hills Women in Business Association and was involved in setting up the North Halton Athena Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting, developing and honouring women leaders and inspiring women to achieve their full potential in the community. Born and raised in Sudbury, Val loved getting away to the family camps on Long Lake and spent as much time as possible there. Her personal strength of character and will power carried her on throughout this summer allowing her to accomplish goals of renewing relationships and visiting childhood haunts and friends along with going to Camp Manitou in August 2007. Val became passionate in her support of the ''Weekend to End Breast Cancer'' walk for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, participating in 2 walks and planning a 3rd in spite of declining health. The family asks that those wishing to honour her memory make contributions to the Princess Margaret Walk to End Cancer in lieu of flowers. Beloved husband of over 55 years of Joyce Pearson (nee Ross). It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Larry on Saturday, the 24th day of November, 2007 at the Credit Valley Hospital in his 66th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Sheila. Loving father of Earl and his wife Bernadette, Michael and his wife Sylvia and his daughter Kathleen, step-daughter Barbara and step-son Ed and his wife Dawnne. SMITH, Stephen Matthew
On October 3, 2007 at the age of 55 in Cork, Ireland.  Stephen was born November 22, 1951 in Ayrshire, Scotland.  He was the beloved partner of James Darling (formerly Dyer), also of Scotland.  Those who knew Stephen describe him as wonderfully spirited.  He is known "for making all the important people feel cheap, and all the cheap people feel important; that was his gift."  Stephen is loved by many who will miss his laughter.  On November 22, 2007, Stephen's ashes will be scattered on Penistone Hill, West Yorkshire, England. 


WEEKS, Robert  
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Bob passed away peacefully on December 29, 2007 with his family at his side. Born to parents Guy (deceased) and Dorothy (nee Blizzard). Bob will be dearly missed by his loving wife Patricia. He is predeceased by his daughter Cyndi. Survived by his two sons Dan (Joanne) and Michael (Kerrie), his two grandsons Brandon and Tyler, and his brothers Guy (Shirley) and Harold (Jan). Bob's passion for life and great sense of humour radiated to those around him. He was a kind and gentle man and an awesome Poppa. Bobby will be sadly missed by his many friends and his hockey buds. WOOD, John  
Following a valiant battle with cancer, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday 13th, November 2007. John beloved son of Jean Brandon Wood and the late Arnold, and dear brother of Ken Wood. John will be missed by his many friends at Atlantic Taxi where he was a cab owner and driver for 38 years. Respecting John's wishes, a cremation has taken place, and an interment will follow in Cedar Vale Cemetery, Cannington, Ontario.
